OTHER SERVICES
VIDEO-CAMERA INSPECTIONS & REPORTS
We use a high quality video-camera to check the condition of your chimney. The camera gives us the ability to go inside the flue and see things we'd never be able to see like: soot or creosote accumulation, flue pipe cracks, missing joints, gaps or obstructions. Upon special request we can make a videotape of the inspection so you can see first-hand the condition of the interior of the chimney. Our safety inspection and detailed-professional condition report will pinpoint any problems, irregularities and potential fire hazards inside or outside your chimney. Additionally, after video inspection, we'll perform a free draft test of your appliance.
RAIN CAPS & DAMPERS
Chimney caps are designed to serve a variety of functions, but primarily to keep the flue dry. The rain cap prevents water from entering your chimney. Rain can damage metal dampers and masonry fireboxes. Moisture very quickly can cause masonry deterioration. The purpose of the fireplace damper is to prevent heat loss when the fireplace is not being used. It can also be used to regulate the rate of burning in the firebox. Additionally a top-sealing damper prevents rain and animals from entering the chimney. We recommend only high quality stainless steel chimney caps and dampers.
CHIMNEYS RELINED & REPAIRED
Chimneys that were built without flue liners according to NFPA 211 Code: Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances and local New York City Code should be lined for safety's sake. Fitting a chimney with a properly sized liner is crucial. We recommend installing a UL listed stainless steel chimney liner, that will help create safe, efficient and condensate free venting.
DRAFT INDUCERS, CHIMNEY & FIREPLACE FANS
An electric chimney fan or draft inducer is a mechanical device that is used to create a draft where natural draft does not occur, or where natural draft is insufficient. We recommend the Enervex (formerly Exhausto) Chimney Fan, a high quality chimney mounted ventilator that is designed to to create mechanical draft, pulling smoke, gases, and odors up and out of a chimney. This fan is designed to prevent draft problems to occur by creating a mechanical draft in venting systems. We're approved installers of Exhausto - Enervex chimney fans.
CHIMNEY AND FIREPLACE CLEANING - SWEEPING
Chimneys and fireplaces should be inspected at least once a year and cleaned when necessary. If you use your fireplace or appliance on a regular basis, we strongly recommend cleaning of the chimney flue at least once a year during your annual chimney inspection. We are well trained and qualified to inspect or clean your chimney and to asses any potential problems. If necessary, or requested by the homeowner, architect or engineer, we can perform video-camera scanning of your chimney and provide a condition report.
